ISLAMABAD: A tense moment unfolded at the Asma Jahangir Conference when senior PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah was interrupted by members of the audience during his speech on enforced disappearances.
During his speech, as Rana Sanaullah referred to the issue of missing persons, voices from the audience shouted “shut up,” disrupting the session and drawing immediate attention to the charged atmosphere inside the conference hall.
Responding to the interruption, Rana Sanaullah said the reaction reflected the audience’s attitude, adding that they were unwilling to listen and had “exposed themselves” through their conduct.
Sources say that it was Karachi-based artist Sheema Karmani who shouted shut up, call for Rana Sanaullah.
The exchange highlighted deep divisions and intolerance for dissenting views at the conference, raising questions about the space for dialogue and free expression at a forum named after renowned human rights activist Asma Jahangir.
