ISLAMABAD: Internet services have been disrupted in several areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, causing difficulties for residents. Mobile data and Wi-Fi services have also been partially affected in some areas.
According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the disruption was caused by a cut in an optical fiber cable on the network of a telecom operator. The cable damage resulted in partial service interruptions for some service providers.
The outage has affected internet services of several mobile and telecom operators, including Nayatel, PTCL, Jazz, Ufone, and Zong. Users have also reported difficulties accessing mobile banking and digital payment services, including Easypaisa and JazzCash.
Several social media platforms have also been affected, with users experiencing difficulties accessing social networking websites.
The PTA said the disruption is currently limited to certain areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding locations. Internet services in central and southern parts of the country remain operational, although there have also been reports of disruptions in some areas of the northern region.
The regulator has urged citizens not to panic over the partial outage, saying technical teams are working to repair the damaged optical fiber cable and restore services in the affected areas.
According to the PTA, full restoration could take several hours, while efforts are underway to restore connectivity in affected areas as soon as possible.
