KOHISTAN: The International Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) day was observed in Kohistan, where speakers urged the community to play their due role in protecting lives and properties from the natural disasters by adopting precautions for mitigation.
The Seminar was organised by Pak Mission Society (PMS), in collaboration with German Cooperation (GIZ) and Humedica International Aid, organised a seminar in Kohistan under the “Building Resilient Kohistan Project” to commemorate the International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) on October 13, 2025.
Tahsil Charmin Mulana Akram, Manager PMS, Muhammad Zubair, and
ADC Fazal Malik spoke on the occasion.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of resilience and preparedness in the face of natural and man-made disasters. The theme of this year’s observance was “Fund Resilience, Not Disasters.”
Representatives from local administration, community leaders, civil society members, and students participated in the seminar. Speakers highlighted the need for proactive planning, capacity building, and community-based disaster risk management to minimise the impact of emergencies in vulnerable regions like Kohistan.
The participants emphasised the role of collaboration among government institutions, NGOs, and local communities to build a safer and more resilient society. The event also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on climate action, health, clean water, and sustainable communities.
