PESHAWAR – Tension gripped Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) Peshawar on Wednesday after the Provincial President of Insaf Doctors Forum (IDF) Dr. Nabi Jan Afridi was allegedly abducted from the hospital premises.
According to PTI and Insaf Doctors Forum sources, Dr. Nabi Jan Afridi was picked up by some unidentified persons in front of the doctors’ hostel when he was leaving for a protest march.
The sources claimed that when other doctors present on the spot tried to resist the abduction and stop the unknown persons, the abductors allegedly resorted to aerial firing. During the incident, one doctor identified as Dr. Zain sustained injuries, while the situation led to panic among the doctors and staff present at the hospital.
PTI officials have also claimed that after the incident, the General Secretary of Insaf Doctors Forum, Dr. Saad, has also gone missing and his whereabouts are currently unknown. The Insaf Doctors Forum is the doctors’ wing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and has been active in raising issues related to doctors, health reforms and governance in the province.
Following the alleged abduction, doctors at KTH staged a protest and demanded immediate recovery of Dr. Nabi Jan Afridi and Dr. Saad, and strict action against those responsible for the firing and injuries to Dr. Zain.
Police and hospital administration have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident. Efforts are underway to ascertain the facts behind the alleged abduction.
