ISLAMABAD: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced that the Bangladesh cricket team has been eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2026. In place of Bangladesh, the Scotland team has now been included in this mega event, which is co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
According to the ICC’s official announcement, Scotland will participate in the tournament. It is important to note that the application submitted by Bangladesh to the ICC Dispute Resolution Committee has been rejected.
The committee stated that it does not have the jurisdiction to take any action regarding this matter.
Bangladesh had refused to play matches in India due to security concerns and requested that its matches be moved to Sri Lanka instead of Kolkata and Mumbai. The controversy escalated when the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their squad. This led the Bangladeshi government to ban the broadcasting of the IPL within the country.
The decision could result in a significant financial loss for Bangladesh, estimated at around $27 million (approximately 325 crore taka). The ICC is currently investigating possible “political interference” in this situation. If it is determined that the decision was made under government pressure, the Bangladesh Cricket Board could also face suspension.
