Iran has claimed to have mobilized more than 1 million troops in anticipation of a possible ground conflict with the United States.
According to the Iranian news agency ‘Tasnim’, young volunteers are flocking to the Basij, Revolutionary Guards and Iranian army recruitment centers in large numbers.
The report, citing a military source, said that the ground forces have been organized and prepared for war and that a strong response will be given in the event of a possible arrival of American forces in Iran. According to international media reports, Iranian officials have publicly rejected any diplomatic offer with the United States.
Meanwhile, the United States has increased military activities in the Middle East, where troops from the US 82nd Airborne Division are due to arrive in the region soon, while thousands of Marines are already deployed.
Trump has claimed that this move was a serious negotiating signal from Iran, but Iranian officials have denied reports of formal negotiations.
According to a report in the British newspaper ‘The Telegraph’, the ongoing tension is putting financial and military pressure on the US arms stockpiles.
In the first 16 days, the US and its allies had used about 11,000 weapons, the total cost of which was estimated at about 26 billion dollars. The report fears that the United States may have to use old weapons if reserves run low.
