For cricket fans in Peshawar, this is not just the return of a game but the end of a sad era. Since 2006, when Pakistan and India last played here, the grounds of Peshawar have been deserted. “We have seen our team play in other cities for years, but now it is a dream come true to see sixes being hit on the soil of our own city,” says Mahboob Alam, one of the cricket fans.

The reconstruction of the Arbab Niaz Stadium on modern lines has raised the hopes of the fans. When the provincial government announced the renaming of the stadium as “Imran Khan Cricket Stadium”, a new debate broke out on social media. While fans with political affiliations were calling it a great tribute, old fans were seen expressing their attachment to the historical name of the “Arbab Niaz” stadium.

The biggest demand of Peshawar fans has always been to see their team, “Peshawar Zalmi,” playing on their home ground. When the news came out in February 2026 that the PSL 11 matches would be held in Peshawar after security clearance, there was a sense of celebration in the city.

“Now we don’t need to go to Rawalpindi or Lahore, Babar Azam will now bat in front of us.” Local shopkeepers and hotel owners called this decision a new life for the city’s economy.

For the residents of Peshawar, the revival of cricket means a “victory of peace.” When the floodlights were turned on in the stadium, there was a sparkle in the eyes of the fans. They said, “These matches will show the world that Peshawar is a safe and sports-loving city.”

Thousands of users expressed their joy on Twitter (X) and Facebook. Fans shared old photos and demanded that the government ensure transparency in ticket sales so that every common citizen can be a part of this historic moment.

Peshawar cricket fans are very optimistic and excited at the moment. For them, this revival is not just a tournament but a means of global recognition of Peshawar’s bright traditions and sporting talent.
