PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in Peshawar and most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from May 10 to 12. Alerts have been sent to all district administrations.
According to PDMA forecasts, rain and hailstorms are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, and Abbottabad. Other areas, including Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Kohat, Kurram, Orakzai, Khyber, Bajaur, Mohmand, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, and Tank, are also likely to experience rain and gusty winds.
The PDMA has cautioned that the weather conditions may lead to landslides in upper districts and flash flooding in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Malakand, Buner, Abbottabad, and Kohistan. Urban flooding is a concern in Peshawar, Mardan, and Nowshera, prompting authorities to advise citizens to exercise caution.
Strong winds and hail could damage weak structures, electricity poles, and solar panels. Farmers are urged to take protective measures to safeguard their crops.
District administrations have been instructed to ensure the preparedness of rescue teams, maintain key highways, provide alternative routes, and keep drainage systems clear to prevent urban flooding. Both tourists and residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay informed about weather conditions.
The PDMA Emergency Operations Center is fully operational, and the public is encouraged to report any adverse incidents by calling 1700.
