PESHAWAR: A protest against the province’s political situation and the reported imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) witnessed scenes of confusion in Peshawar’s busy Hashtnagri area, as demonstrators dispersed after police arrived at the scene.
According to viral video footage circulating on social media, a group of protesters and political workers were standing on the road, chanting slogans and expressing anger over the political developments in the province.
However, the situation changed when a police contingent arrived carrying batons and began moving towards the gathering. The footage appears to show protesters quickly scattering in different directions, bringing the demonstration to an abrupt end.
The sudden dispersal created brief confusion on the road, while bystanders and cameras captured the scenes.
The protest came amid heightened political tensions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following reports of emergency measures and the transfer of provincial administration to the governor.
Situation Remains Calm in Khyber District
Meanwhile, the situation in Khyber district, the hometown of former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Sohail Afridi, was reported to be peaceful, despite the province’s political developments.
According to local reports, no unusual movement, major political protest or significant public gathering was observed at the former chief minister’s ancestral residence or in nearby areas.
Commercial and public activities in the district were reportedly continuing as usual, with major markets, shopping centres and business areas remaining open.
Traffic was also moving normally on the main roads, indicating no immediate disruption to routine life in the area.
