NOWSHERA: Due to the closure of GT Road and Motorway, passengers have turned to rail travel, leading to a heavy rush at the railway station.
According to details, blockades on GT Road and Motorway in connection with expected long march / security measures have left hundreds of passengers stranded.
As a result, a large number of passengers reached Nowshera Railway Station to travel via train. Railway officials said there is an unusual increase in passengers.
PTI had announced Long March from Peshawar to Islamabad led by KP CM Sohail Afridi for release of Imran Khan. Govt had announced to stop it at any cost.
To stop marchers, administration has placed containers on GT Road at Khairabad, Akora Khattak, M-1 Motorway at Burhan, Rashakai, Karnal Sher Khan interchanges.
Because of containers, private cars, passenger vans and goods transport are stuck for hours. Many passengers returning from Peshawar to Rawalpindi / Lahore are suffering.
As alternative, people are now moving to trains – Khyber Mail, Rehman Baba, Awam Express. Railway has not increased coaches yet, so tickets are short and black marketing reported.
If march delayed till Oct 5 as reported, these closures may continue in phases.
