BALOCHISTAN: The government has suspended the pass system (Rahdari) at the Chaghi border after closing Gwadar until further notice. The pass was used to travel to Iran via border points.
According to sources, following Gwadar’s recent decision, the district administration of Chagai has officially announced the closure of the “passport system” for travelling to Iran, effective April 1, 2026.
According to a statement from the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Chaghi, the existing pass system that allowed travel between Pakistan and Iran has been suspended until further notice. The statement emphasised that no new travel passes will be issued for trips to Iran.
Officials explained that the pass system previously enabled residents of border areas to travel without a passport and visa, a convenience specifically for those living near the borders of both countries.
The official notification, citing a directive from the Interior Department, stated that the option for meeting relatives under the 15-day “passport” permit has been terminated, meaning that travel to Iran will now require a valid visa and passport.
Previously, last month, the Gwadar district administration also announced the shutdown of the visa system for travelling to Iran.
A statement from the Assistant Commissioner of Gwadar’s office indicated that this visa system has been suspended until further notice, and no visas will be granted for travel to Iran in the future.
It is important to note that this system has provided a significant and convenient travel option for the local population for many years.
