PESHAWAR (Kashifuddin Syed): The government, in consultation with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), has completed the survey for the formation of teams in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to launch a drive for the audit of Jewellers running businesses in the province.
According to the government officials, it has been decided to audit jewellers across the province, including Peshawar, for which FBR has commenced arrangements for the audit.
They said the decision was taken in the light of the court orders, and more than 500 teams have been formed for the audit of jewellers. Government officials will be deployed at jewellers’ shops in Peshawar Cantt and City.
They mentioned that the negotiations between jewellers and FBR regarding the gold business have failed. They said the arrangements have been made to bring the jewellery sector into the tax network.
According to the government officials, some jewellers do business worth millions of rupees, but there are reservations regarding tax.
