PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has warned that he will order the arrest of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers move towards the Governor House.
Speaking on a private television, Kundi ruled out the possibility of further negotiations with PTI and said strict action would be taken if the party attempted to storm the Governor House. KP Governor reiterated that any move towards the Governor House would prompt a strong response.
He said several options, including governor’s rule, an emergency or the use of both measures, had been discussed. However, he said the final decision would be made at a cabinet meeting today. Meanwhile, the PTI long march, led by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, reached Mardan, where the chief minister addressed party workers.
Afridi announced that he would reveal the march’s future strategy in Swabi on October 13. Addressing supporters, the chief minister alleged that his political opponents wanted to eliminate PTI. He also claimed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was not receiving its due share under the National Finance Commission (NFC) award.
The governor’s warning comes amid rising political tensions surrounding the PTI march and discussions over possible federal measures in the province.
