The Establishment Division has decided to establish a dedicated social media monitoring cell to oversee the online activities of government officials and employees.
According to Establishment Division officials, the monitoring cell is expected to become operational within one to two months.
A Grade-17 government employee will be appointed to supervise the cell. A report on restrictions governing social media use by government employees has also been presented to the relevant standing committee.
The Establishment Division has introduced new rules regulating the use of social media by government employees.
Under the rules, government officials are prohibited from using their personal or official social media accounts for self-promotion.
The use of official government accounts for personal publicity is also banned. Officials noted that some government employees have been using social media platforms to promote themselves.
The Establishment Division is therefore establishing its own monitoring cell to oversee such activities.
The report stated that government employees will no longer be allowed to use social media for personal publicity.
However, exceptions may be granted where official permission is obtained. In one case, a female government officer was allowed to give an interview for a vlog after receiving approval.
