Gilgit-Baltistan Rural Support Programme (GBRSP) completed work on rehabilitation of the Mani Bala & Paeen Goner Water Channel and also repaired damaged sections, to ensure proper irrigation.
The communities of Mani Bala and Paeen Goner mainly depend on agriculture for their livelihood. In the past, farmers faced serious difficulties due to the poor condition of the water channel. The channel was damaged and blocked at different places, causing water leakage and wastage. As a result, water could not reach many agricultural fields, which negatively affected crop production and farmers’ income.
To address this issue, Gilgit-Baltistan Rural Support Programme (GBRSP) supported the rehabilitation of the Mani Bala & Paeen Goner Water Channel. The project included cleaning the channel, repairing damaged sections, and improving the water flow to ensure proper irrigation.
The local community also played an active role in the rehabilitation work by providing their support and participation. Their cooperation helped in completing the work successfully.
After the rehabilitation of the water channel, several positive changes were observed in the area as Water now reaches farmers’ fields more easily and regularly, water loss has significantly reduced, Farmers are able to irrigate their crops on time while agricultural productivity has improved.
