ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has formally approved the budget documents and draft finance bill for the year 2026-27, after which the budget will be presented in the National Assembly today (Friday).

As per details, various proposals related to increasing salaries and pensions of government employees were also considered in the cabinet meeting. However, the final decision in this regard is expected to be announced during the budget speech.

The government has allocated a development budget of Rs 1,000 billion for the fiscal year 2026-27. The budget has allocated funds for various sectors including infrastructure, water resources, education, health and IT.

According to the budget documents, the National Highway Authority has been given the highest funds with Rs 224.51 billion, while Rs 103.80 billion has been allocated for the Water Resources Division.

Moreover, Rs 233.33 billion have been allocated for provinces and special areas, Rs 56.07 billion for merged districts and Rs 85.2 billion for Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Apart from that Rs 1 billion has also been allocated for new schemes of CPEC.
