Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr issued a stern warning to broadcasters on Saturday, threatening to revoke their licenses if they continue to air what the agency deems fake news. This warning coincided with increasing criticism from President Donald Trump regarding the media’s coverage of the ongoing conflict in Iran.
In his statement, Carr emphasized that broadcasters must follow the law and operate in the public interest. He cautioned that those disseminating hoaxes and news distortions, a term the FCC now associates with fake news, must change their approach before their license renewals.
The warning was issued alongside a post from President Trump, who criticized the legacy media for their reporting on the Iran war. Since taking on the role of FCC chairman during Trump’s second term, Carr has been vocal in his criticism of the media and has increasingly positioned himself as an enforcer of media regulations.
Carr’s post on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted his commitment to holding broadcasters accountable, reiterating that failure to comply with the law could result in the loss of broadcasting licenses. This move marks the latest escalation in the Trump administration’s ongoing campaign against what it perceives as biased or misleading media coverage.
