The Election Commission of Pakistan(ECP) has issued a notification to disqualify Murad Saeed, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, who was elected to the general seat of the Senate from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and terminate his membership.

According to the announcement, this decision has been taken in light of the order of the Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court in which Murad Saeed was sentenced to ten years in prison.

The announcement states that after hearing the case number 708/23 registered against Murad Saeed at the RA Bazar Police Station, Rawalpindi, the court had given its verdict on March 7, 2026. Following the court’s decision, the Election Commission, in its recent meeting held on March 25, approved the disqualification of Murad Saeed, acting under Article 63 (1) (h) of the Constitution of Pakistan.

It should be noted that Murad Saeed was declared successful in the Senate seat through a notification by the Election Commission on July 24, 2025, last year.
