ISLAMABAD: Tremors from an earthquake were felt across multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and parts of Islamabad on Wednesday, prompting residents to rush out of homes and offices in fear.

According to the Seismological Centre, the earthquake measured 5.3 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, while the depth was recorded at 174 kilometres.

According to initial reports, the earthquake had a moderate intensity and its epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. The tremors were felt in several cities including Peshawar, Mardan, Bajaur, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Buner, and surrounding districts as well as parts of the federal capital.

Residents reported strong shaking that lasted several seconds, causing panic in densely populated neighbourhoods. People were seen coming out of buildings and gathering in open spaces as a precautionary measure.

Authorities have not reported any immediate casualties or major structural damage. However, emergency response teams and local administrations remain on alert and are assessing the situation in affected areas.
