Three Chinese citizens were killed in a drone attack carried out from Afghan territory on the night of November 26.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, the drone attack was carried out on a camp in the Khatlon region where employees of the construction company LLC Shohin SM were staying. The camp is located in the area under the control of the first outpost of the Border Forces, “Istiqlal”.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the attack was carried out by an unmanned Predator equipped with grenades and automatic weapons. Three employees of the Chinese company were killed on the spot, while other workers in the area were urgently evacuated to safe places. According to Tajik officials, the activities of terrorist and criminal groups from Afghanistan continue to pose a threat to the security of the border areas, although Tajikistan is engaged in efforts to strengthen stability and border security in the region.
The official statement added that this incident is clear evidence that groups across the border continue to pose a serious threat to the peace and stability of the region, therefore, effective and immediate border security cooperation has become indispensable. Tajikistan strongly condemned the attack and called on the interim government of Afghanistan to take strict measures against such groups, reduce border tensions and fulfill its regional responsibilities.
