ISLAMABAD: The capital city of Pakistan has been completely taken over by dense fog, resulting in very low visibility and a vast range of disruptions. The fog has notably affected some of the major routes and also the corresponding neighbourhoods making it a great risk for the commuters.
The Express Highway is one of the areas that has suffered the most. It covers the area from Naval Anchorage to DHA 2. Besides this, there are a few more places in Bahria Town, such as Phase 4 and Phase 7 which suffer from the same problem. The heavy fog has also covered the areas near Sawan River, making it even harder to see and move.
The authorities have been warned of visibility problems and have advised that if they have to travel, they must do so in an extremely cautious manner. The drivers have been given the same advice and also encouraged to travel at a slower speed and to turn on their fog lights if they have such facilities in their vehicles. The Islamabad Traffic Police have been positioned at the critical points where they are controlling the flow of cars and at the same time directing the safe passage of vehicles through the regions that are under the effect by fog.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted fog to remain for the next few hours. However, dense fog will not only hamper the morning travel but also the day-to-day activities of people, particularly in those localities where the visibility is less than 50 meters.
The residents and visitors of the areas hit by fog should follow the weather updates regularly and refrain from travelling if it is not necessary. The administration is also vigilant of the situation and will keep giving the updates as and when required.
