PESHAWAR: Dengue cases continue to rise in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with 135 infections confirmed during the past week, according to a report issued by the provincial health department.
The report said 1,002 suspected dengue cases were recorded across the province over the last seven days, of which 135 were confirmed.
So far this year, KP has reported 5,273 suspected dengue cases, including 1,327 confirmed infections. No death from dengue has been reported in the province, according to the health department.
Kohat has recorded the highest number of confirmed cases this year at 788, followed by Peshawar with 251 and Bannu with 79. Haripur has reported 35 cases, Nowshera 20, Abbottabad 17, Charsadda 14, Swabi 13, Lakki Marwat 13 and Khyber 12.
Other confirmed cases have been reported in DI Khan, Mansehra, Swat, Bajaur, Karak, Mohmand, Hangu, Mardan, Lower Chitral, Malakand, Buner, Lower Dir, North Waziristan, Orakzai and other districts.
The health department said surveillance activities were continuing to identify dengue larvae and potential breeding sites. So far this year, officials have inspected 259,220 houses, 902,099 containers and 24,449 outdoor sites.
Larvae were detected at 1,028 houses, 1,597 containers and 321 outdoor locations during the inspections.
The report said 65,751 community awareness sessions had also been conducted, with men and women participating in efforts to raise awareness about dengue prevention.
