ISLAMABAD: Daily walking is a routine for most people, yet the scale does not show a significant change in their weight.

According to fitness professionals, this does not imply that walking is of no use, the amount of fat burned might be less than the weight loss caused by walking.

Fitness Whiz Anjali Sachan thinks that walking regularly is the safest and most effective way to lose weight in the long run, but only if done with commitment. To put it in another way, she was saying that one kilo of human fat equates to roughly 7,700 calories, which is the energy the body has stored. However, to burn down this quantity of fat takes time and requires a lot of patience.

Sachan opined that losing fat slowly and steadily should not be understood as water loss or reduced bloating that causes short-term weight fluctuations. It is likely that if one’s lifestyle remains healthy then the fat that has once been burnt will not come back easily.

In addition, she noted that with each step taken during walking, the body is burning energy. It is said that on the average, 1,000 steps would account for a burn of around 50 to 70 calories. Applying this calculation, a person is to walk somewhere around 150,000 steps for the loss of one kilogram of body fat.

The fitness professionals have it that a person walking 10,000 to 15,000 steps daily could lose one kilogram of fat in 10 to 12 days without going through strenuous workout routines or adopting extreme dieting.

The point of daily routines over that of daily performances has been highlighted by the experts as the main factor in obtaining success. Safe and permanent fat loss can be achieved through regular walking and a balanced lifestyle.
