PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Customs has confiscated 19 non-custom paid (NCP) vehicles with a value of around PKR 11 million and smuggled items worth more than PKR 19.7 million in the anti-smuggling activities carried out during the last ten days.

The operation was conducted by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) under the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement as part of a continued campaign against smuggling and non-duty paid goods trade.

The vehicles recovered are from the high-end brands like Toyota Land Cruiser, Aqua, Vitz, Fielder and Honda Vezel, Grace to a Land Rover and Jimny Jeep. These vehicles, which were being transported illegally without the necessary customs duties paid, were valued at around PKR 11 crore.

Alongside the seizing of the vehicles, the Customs Bureau also took the smuggled goods valued at PKR 8.76 crores. The most prominent of those goods were bars of silver and various other items such as black tea, cloth, cigarettes, medicine, etc and parts of cars. The whole operation was managed in such a way that it was totally in favour of the fight against smuggling, national revenue protection, and border control maintenance.

The Federal Board of Revenue stressed that such activities are a part of their whole strategy to get rid of illegal trade and smuggling throughout the nation. As a result, the crackdown has caused a major setback for the smuggling rings that were operating in that area; their supply routes have been disrupted, and the entry of the illegal goods into the market has been stopped.
