DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A breach in the Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) in Paharpur tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan has triggered a severe flooding situation, inundating several settlements and forcing residents to leave their homes.
Soon after the canal breach was reported, Pakistan Army personnel and teams from the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) reached the affected areas to assist with relief and rescue operations.
The evacuation of residents to safer locations is underway, with TMA tractors and rescue personnel helping move affected families out of the flooded areas.
Local residents are also taking part in relief efforts and assisting one another on a self-help basis.
Meanwhile, the provincial government has come under criticism over what local communities describe as a lack of attention to the situation.
Affected residents and local circles have questioned the absence of the provincial government from the relief response, saying that while people in Dera Ismail Khan are struggling with flooding, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is reportedly engaged in political activities and sloganeering in Punjab instead of focusing on the situation in the affected areas.
