ABBOTTABAD: The Anti-Terrorism Court Abbottabad on Tuesday granted a three-day remand of the accused named in the murder of Dr Warda Mushtaq.

A senior doctor of the Benazir Shaheed Hospital, Abbottabad, was allegedly killed over a dispute of 67 Tolas of gold, and her close friend Rida is reportedly behind the murder.

On the call of the Provincial Doctors Association, the Doctors community in the province observed a strike and boycotted services, while Doctors at the OPD of Benazir Shaheed Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad, also boycotted their duty in protest.

Talking to the media on this occasion, Provincial Doctors Association Hazara President Dr Zia Qamar and Dr Iram Siddique said that the police and the administration should immediately implement the demands presented to appease the soul of Dr Warda Mushtaq.

The doctors’ community demanded that authorities share the case progress updates with them; otherwise, they would not move from the protest camp.

Meanwhile, the police produced the accused, including key suspect Rida Waheed, Nadeem, son of Aurangzeb, and Pervez, son of Ayub, before the Anti-Terrorism Court. The court granted a three-day demand. However, the prime suspect in the case, Shamrez, is said to be still at large.

Meanwhile, doctors have also taken out protest rallies in Ayub Medical Complex, Tehsil Hospital Lora, and Havelian against the murder of Dr Warda Mushtaq.

The President of the Provincial Doctors Association, Hazara, said that no written documents have been given to the association yet, on that further action will be taken soon. It is pertinent to mention that on December 4, Dr Warda Mushtaq was taken from the hospital by her friend Rida Waheed to return 67 tolas of gold jewellery and was allegedly killed at an under-construction house adjacent to Jadoon Plaza and buried in a pit in the forest of Lai Banota by other accused.

After an investigation by the police, the body was recovered on the early morning of December 8, following the identification of the accused, against whom doctors and civil society have protested.

They protested by blocking Fawara Chowk to all types of traffic. However, police officers, including the Deputy Commissioner, negotiated with the protesters and restored the highway to traffic.

Meanwhile, patients coming to DHQ faced severe difficulties due to the doctors’ strike.
