Despite the Federal Committee on Agriculture setting a cotton cultivation target of 3.46 million acres and 5.553 million bales for Punjab and a cotton cultivation target of 1.556 million acres and 4.040 million bales for Sindh for the cotton year 2025-26, only 2.453 million bales were recorded in Punjab and 2.848 million bales in Sindh till December 15.
These figures have become a cause of concern for the cotton sector. Despite Sindh’s production target being 37 percent lower than Punjab’s, Sindh’s cotton production has recorded a surprising 16 percent increase compared to Punjab’s as of December 15.
Chairman Cotton Ginners Forum Ehsan-ul-Haq said that according to the overall domestic cotton production data released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association, 5.3 million bales of cotton, equivalent to 1 percent, had reached ginning factories across the country by December 15.
