PESHAWAR: Sohail Afridi, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa declared that a public gathering will take place in Peshawar on December 7 to call for the release of the PTI founder.
While addressing a gathering in Peshawar, Afridi expressed that today was a sad day, for them as non-violent PTI supporters faced harsh brutality and were even shot at.
He mentioned that to demonstrate against the arrest of the PTI founder, assembly members will express their protest, in Islamabad every Tuesday. He further stated that all PTI legislators are required to arrive in Islamabad on Tuesdays and those who do not show up “will face criticism.”
Afridi mentioned that PTI workers had been targeted before. He stated that influential factions oppose the enforcement of the rule of law and the Constitution in Pakistan and they regard citizens as if they were “sheep and goats.”
He further said that the judiciary has been “paralyzed,” but PTI will continue to raise its voice within the limits of the Constitution and the law. He stressed that the party remained peaceful on May 9 and November 26, and will continue peaceful protests in the future.
CM Afridi urges federal govt to fulfil promise of Rs1 trillion for merged districts
Earlier on Monday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi highlighted that the foremost concern and priority for the province at present is maintaining peace. He expressed this during a discussion with a group of members, from Mohmand district.
The tribal elders conveyed their endorsement of CM Afridi describing his selection as a source of pride, for all areas. They reiterated their dedication to backing the administration in its initiatives to maintain peace and safeguard provincial entitlements.
In reply CM Afridi expressed gratitude to the elders for their backing and emphasized that development and prosperity cannot be achieved without peace. He pointed out the organization of the KP Grand Peace Jirga, in the provincial assembly mentioning that all political parties and stakeholders had collectively released a declaration endorsing stability in the province.
CM Afridi expressed worries regarding unmet commitments from the merger of districts, such as the pledge to allocate Rs1 trillion over a decade which has yet to be fulfilled. He further noted that billions, in payments owed to the provincial government by the federal government are still unpaid.
The Chief Minister assured the delegation that efforts to secure the rights of the tribal districts are ongoing. He announced plans to establish universities, medical colleges, and nursing colleges in the merged districts to promote education and development.
