ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert of heavy rains with thunderstorms in different parts of the country during the next 12 to 14 hours.

According to the alert, strong winds, gales and gusty winds are likely in most parts of Pakistan, while hailstorms have also been predicted in different places of the four provinces. In view of this weather situation, the relevant agencies have been put on high alert so that any emergency can be dealt with promptly.

The NDMA has warned that there is a serious risk of flood situation in the districts of Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Khuzdar, Zhob and Lasbela of Balochistan, while a warning of possible floods has also been issued in the cities of Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Parachinar, Peshawar, Mardan and Swabi of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Similarly, heavy rains are expected in the urban and low-lying areas of Rawalpindi, Attock and Chakwal, including the federal capital Islamabad, causing waterlogging and flooding, which may affect daily life.

According to the authority, snowfall along with rain is expected in the upper mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is likely to affect traffic flow and increase the risk of landslides.

The NDMA has strictly directed citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather and drive vehicles carefully.
