CHARSADDA: Angry protesters in Charsadda staged protets demonstration against PESCO and locked the Wapda Xan office and chanted slogans against the federal government.

The protesters said that despite the intense heat, their lives have become unbearable due to the power outage for 16 to 20 hours every day. Businesses are closed, water is scarce, and children, patients, and the elderly are suffering in the intense heat.

Addressing the protest, the protesters said, “The government and Wapda have not given any schedule for load shedding. The unannounced cut has forced the people to take to the streets. Our protest will continue until electricity is provided as per the schedule.” The protest also affected traffic on the main highway of Charsadda.

The protesters demanded that load shedding be reduced immediately, a schedule be issued, and that WAPDA should provide an explanation to the public. On the other hand, WAPDA officials say that shutdowns are occurring due to overloading and technical malfunctions at grid stations.

However, the public says that announcements alone are not enough; practical steps should be taken. It should be noted that protests against load shedding are increasing in many districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the pre-monsoon heat wave.
