BANNU (Salman Khan): Vigilant personnel of the Bannu Police successfully repelled a multi-sided terrorist assault by Fitna-ul-Khawarij on the Mazanga Checkpost late last night.
The attackers targeted the post, located within the jurisdiction of the Hoveed police station, from three directions under the cover of darkness. However, the police force was already on high alert and launched an immediate, effective counter-attack that forced the terrorists to retreat and flee the area.
Following the reported exchange of fire, a heavy contingent of police led by SP Rural Haider Ali and DSP Rural One Hanan Khan, supported by Rapid Response Force (RRF), Quick Response Force (QRF) squads, and armoured vehicles, arrived at the scene to reinforce the position. Security forces have since cordoned off the locality and initiated a comprehensive search operation to track down the fleeing militants. As a precautionary measure, strict roadblocks have been established at all entry and exit points across the district.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu, Yasir Afridi, praised the professional skills and steadfastness of the officers involved, stating that their timely response thwarted a major sinister attempt. DPO Afridi reaffirmed that the Bannu Police remain committed to making any sacrifice necessary to protect the lives and property of citizens and maintain lasting peace. He also expressed his gratitude to the residents of Mazanga for their cooperation, noting that public support is vital in the ongoing fight against elements threatening the region’s stability.
