CHAMAN: Asghar Khan Achakzai, provincial president of the Awami National Party (ANP) in Balochistan, was arrested after a District and Sessions Court in Chaman cancelled his interim bail in murder and kidnapping cases.
According to Samaa TV report, the court ordered his arrest from the courtroom after revoking his interim bail. Police took him into custody and subsequently shifted him to the Chaman Bypass police lockup.
Police said the cases against Achakzai are linked to the killing of a local man, Taimoor Shah, during a tribal dispute in Chaman approximately one year ago.
According to police, a case was registered against Achakzai on the complaint of the deceased’s father, Zahir Shah, under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, relating to murder, and Section 365, relating to kidnapping.
Following the court’s decision to cancel his interim bail, police arrested Achakzai from the courtroom and transferred him to the police lockup for further legal proceedings.
Asghar Khan Achakzai has previously served as a member of the Balochistan Assembly and currently heads the ANP’s provincial organisation in the province.
