‎ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has criticised political leaders over their alleged reliance on the establishment in the past, questioning their motives amid discussions surrounding Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

‎Speaking informally to journalists in Lahore, Naqvi said some politicians were now raising concerns about the resources of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) districts despite remaining silent for years when those areas were allegedly denied their rightful share.

‎He urged political leaders to set aside their differences and work together to address Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s security challenges, restore law and order and eliminate terrorism.

‎Naqvi claimed that the head of a political party was deeply displeased over not being given a share in Governor’s Rule or the office of governor.

‎Taking aim at politicians who had previously relied on the establishment, the interior minister said those who had built their political careers with such support were now pointing fingers at others.

‎”These are the very politicians who, for decades in the past, relied on the establishment to sustain their politics,” Naqvi said.

‎He further alleged that some politicians had been so dependent on the establishment that they would even have it arrange air tickets for their political parties.

‎The minister questioned whether such politicians were justified in criticising others today, saying political differences should not become an excuse for accusations and confrontational rhetoric.

‎The interior minister also questioned why some political leaders had suddenly become concerned about the resources allocated to districts that formerly comprised FATA.

‎He asked why they had remained silent for years when these districts were allegedly denied their rightful share of resources and why they had not raised their voices earlier in support of the local population.

‎Naqvi stressed that the rights and resources of people from the former FATA districts should be treated as an issue beyond narrow political interests. He maintained that the matter required serious attention rather than being used as a tool in political disputes.

‎Turning to the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Naqvi said the province was facing serious challenges that required collective action from political leaders. He urged politicians to contribute to restoring law and order and eliminating terrorism instead of fuelling tensions or spreading chaos.

‎”What Khyber Pakhtunkhwa needs right now is not political confrontation, but peace, stability, and collective effort,” the interior minister said.

‎Naqvi emphasised that efforts to address terrorism and improve security should take precedence over political disputes, adding that the province needed cooperation to overcome its current challenges.

‎Naqvi also stressed the importance of maintaining responsible political discourse despite differences between parties.

‎He said political disagreements were inevitable but argued that debates should be based on evidence, reasoning and facts rather than uncivil language or the exchange of accusations.

‎The minister’s remarks came amid political debate over Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the distribution of resources to former FATA districts and the province’s security challenges.
