The Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, stated on Friday that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been severely affected by recent terrorism, with the total number of incidents across the country reaching 4,729 this year.
DG ISPR said 3357 terror events alone occurred in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which indicates that the KP government failed to protect the citizens.
The DG ISPR pointed out that there is a narrative suggesting that the Frontier Corps (FC) is stationed along the Afghan border, yet terrorism remains uncontrolled. He questioned whether there are any villages near the Punjab and Sindh borders that are divided between both sides. He noted that there are 29 tribes along the Afghan border with populated villages.
The DG emphasised the need for more checkpoints and increased drone surveillance in these areas. He mentioned regions like Khyber-Wadri and Thira, where there is a lack of administration and courts. These areas experience a higher prevalence of terrorism.
He raised a critical question regarding the army’s responsibility for securing the area behind the Afghan border and asked about the government’s role in this matter. He said that the issue of 450,000 non-customs-paid vehicles operating without oversight, questioning who is responsible for apprehending them and stopping their movement.
“If anyone believes that terrorism is a way of life, we will set them straight,” said the Director General of ISPR. “We are on the right path, and we will prevail.” He added, “Our issue is not with the Afghan people; our problem lies with the Afghan regime.”
