PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department has lifted the ban on sweaters of a specific colour in school uniforms, providing relief for government school students during the winter months. According to a statement issued by the department, children attending government schools are now allowed to wear sweaters and gloves of any colour to keep warm.
This decision aims to support low-income families, as many parents struggle to afford new uniforms or specific-colour sweaters. The Education Department noted that the severity of the cold has been increasing in various districts of the province, and due to inflation, parents find it challenging to purchase new sweaters for their children.
The statement emphasised that many students cannot afford to buy new sweaters, so they are permitted to wear warm clothing of any colour. The department has instructed school administrations to ensure that students are not required to wear sweaters of the same colour as their uniforms, and no child should face harassment for wearing differently colored sweaters.
Educators have praised this decision, stating that the health of children in harsh cold weather is more important than adhering to uniform policies. This change will alleviate financial pressure on parents, allowing students to attend school without fear of restrictions. Many parents have welcomed this initiative and expressed hope that the government will continue to implement such measures for the benefit of children.
It is noteworthy that, in recent years, parents have had to incur additional expenses due to specific uniform colour requirements. The removal of this ban will directly benefit thousands of families. The education department stated that this relaxation will remain in effect throughout the winter season.
