PESHAWAR: All arrangements have been finalised for a grand peace jirga scheduled to be held today in the Dogra area of Bara tehsil of Khyber district to foster harmony among various tribes and resolve security issues in the tribal region.

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi will grace the jirga as the chief guest. The event will be arranged with full participation of the local tribal elders, representatives, and leaders of all tribal groups in Khyber district.

Although security forces have restored near normalcy following military operations in the Valley, authorities said that an element of lawlessness continued to prevail in most areas. It is one among several nerve centers designed to host the peace jirga.

The participants will also suggest ways of sustaining peace and settling local conflicts through dialogues that will lead them to work together with the provincial government. Sources confirmed that all preparations have been made for the event.

The district administration, with the help of the security institutions, has made tight security arrangements to hold the jirga peacefully. Police have been positioned at key entry and exit points of Bara tehsil. More checkpoints have been set up in and around the Dogra area to keep a strict vigil on movement.
