The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday appointed Shaheen Afridi as captain to lead Pakistan cricket team in one day Internationals (ODI).
The PCB announced the decision after a crucial meeting held in Islamabad on Monday. The meeting was attended by the PCB top office designatories and selection committee members.
PCB in a statement said that Shaheen Afridi would lead the team in South Africa matches.
Shaheen Afridi, a left-arm fast bowler, will captain Pakistan in a three-match One-Day International series against South Africa, scheduled to take place at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad from November 4 to 8.
His appointment as captain was announced today following a meeting in Islamabad, which included white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, director of high performance Aqib Javed, and members of the selection committee.
The 25-year-old has participated in 66 ODIs and 92 T20Is for Pakistan, during which he has taken a total of 249 wickets. In 32 Test matches, excluding the ongoing second Test against South Africa at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Shaheen has claimed 120 wickets.
Previously, Shaheen has captained Pakistan in five T20 International matches on home soil against New Zealand in 2024.
