GALIYAT: Traffic has been restored on key roads in Galiyat following heavy hail and snowfall that disrupted movement in the mountainous region, while authorities continue precautionary measures to prevent vehicles from skidding on icy surfaces.
The district administration has confirmed the reopening of affected routes after snow-clearing operations. However, road maintenance teams remain deployed to ensure safer travel amid persistently cold weather.
The road connecting Baragali and Dunga Gali has been cleared for traffic following snow-removal operations. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Highway Authority has also reopened the route through Changla Gali after completing clearance work.
Officials visited the authority’s facility at Changla Gali to inspect the ongoing operations and review the availability of salt stocks required for road maintenance.
Despite the removal of accumulated snow, authorities have directed road crews to continue sprinkling salt wherever necessary to minimise ice formation and reduce the risk of skidding.
Low temperatures can cause residual moisture to freeze, leaving slippery patches on roads even after visible snow has been cleared. The continued application of salt is therefore considered essential for maintaining safer driving conditions.
The reopening of the roads has restored access for residents and tourists travelling to popular destinations, including Nathiagali, Dunga Gali and Changla Gali.
However, motorists have been advised to exercise caution, maintain reduced speeds and remain particularly vigilant on shaded stretches, steep inclines and other sections where ice may persist.
The authorities are continuing to monitor road conditions and carry out safety operations to facilitate traffic movement across Galiyat.
Drivers have been urged to follow official instructions and avoid unnecessary risks, as changing weather and freezing temperatures may create hazardous conditions even on roads that have reopened.
