The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has launched a crackdown on electricity theft involving software breaches and load profile tampering, detecting 213 cases during inspections conducted by its Metering and Testing (M&T) East teams.
According to LESCO, the detected cases include 193 incidents of software breaches and 20 cases of load profile tampering.
Of the software breach cases, 81 were reported in the South Circle, 77 in Kasur, 34 in the East Circle and one in Okara.
Meanwhile, 16 cases of load profile tampering were detected in the East Circle, two in the South Circle, one in Kasur and one in Okara.
Following the detections, the power utility has initiated legal proceedings and begun registering first information reports (FIRs) against those involved in electricity theft at the relevant police stations.
LESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt said those involved in software breaches and load profile tampering were causing losses to the national exchequer and placing an unfair burden on honest consumers.
He said no leniency would be shown to individuals involved in electricity theft, adding that LESCO’s zero-tolerance policy against power theft would continue to be enforced strictly.
