SHANGLA: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Engineer Amir Muqam has called for a transparent review of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) 13-year tenure in the province, urging authorities to examine public spending, development projects and the use of government resources.
Addressing a gathering of PML-N workers and supporters in Shangla, Muqam said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had faced continuing challenges related to law and order, governance and development during the period. He alleged that political confrontation had diverted attention from public welfare and the provision of essential services.
Muqam said the federal government had justified the imposition of emergency and Governor’s Rule in the province in light of the prevailing situation. He stressed that restoring peace, improving administrative performance and addressing public grievances should be the government’s immediate priorities.
The PML-N provincial president called for the previous provincial government’s performance to be assessed through a transparent and lawful accountability process. He said public funds were a national trust and that officials responsible for their expenditure must be answerable for their decisions.
Referring to his party’s experience at the federal level, Muqam said PML-N leaders had faced accountability proceedings and legal cases while in government. He argued that the same principles should apply to PTI’s tenure in KP, including scrutiny of development spending, public projects and the use of government funds.
He maintained that any evidence of corruption, financial irregularities or misuse of public resources should be investigated by the relevant authorities and dealt with according to the law. He added that accountability should establish facts, determine responsibility and safeguard public money.
Muqam said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa needed peace, employment opportunities, quality education, healthcare and sustainable development rather than prolonged political confrontation. He expressed hope that the current administrative measures would help improve law and order and bring greater attention to the province’s development needs.
Thanking PML-N workers and supporters for their participation in the Shangla gathering, Muqam said political engagement should be accompanied by practical efforts to address public concerns.
He reiterated that his party would continue to advocate peace, development, better governance and public welfare in the province.
Member of the Provincial Assembly Muhammad Rashad Khan and other PML-N leaders also addressed the gathering.
