PESHAWAR:Students of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have raised serious questions over whether Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who belongs to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), will uphold merit and transparency in postings and transfers in public sector universities.

‎Student organizations said that during the past few months, several key appointments including Vice Chancellors, Registrars and other administrative posts in KP universities have come under criticism for alleged political influence.

‎”Governor is the Chancellor of all public universities. If postings and transfers are made on political basis instead of merit, the future of students will be at stake,” a student leader from Peshawar University said.

‎Students demanded that the Governor House should ensure a transparent and merit-based policy for all appointments.

‎They said merit, qualification and experience should be the only criteria for postings, not party affiliation.

‎”We voted PTI for change and transparency but now after Governor Rule Faisal Kareem Kundi always talks about merit and rights of students. Now it is time for the PPP Governor to prove it in action,” another student from Islamia College Peshawar said.

‎Students have appealed to Governor Faisal Karim Kundi to take notice of complaints regarding favoritism in university affairs and to form an independent committee to review all recent postings and transfers.

‎They warned that if merit is ignored, they will be forced to launch a protest movement across the province.
