PESHAWAR: Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Law Minister and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Aftab Alam has clarified that the provincial parliamentary party of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) did not make any decision regarding the nomination of the chief minister or the replacement of the provincial party president during its recent meeting.

In a statement addressed to PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, Aftab Alam expressed concern over his recent remarks, urging him to verify facts and consult the provincial parliamentary party and relevant party leaders before making public statements on sensitive internal matters.

Aftab Alam said the meeting had unanimously decided only to ensure effective representation of the KP parliamentary party in any potential negotiations with the federal government, opposition or establishment.

He stated that PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan had been formally invited to the parliamentary party meeting and taken into confidence regarding its proceedings. He added that the meeting had been scheduled in consultation with the party chairman.

He said the proceedings should therefore be viewed in the context of consultations with the party leadership.

Explaining the rationale behind the decision, the law minister said the provincial parliamentary party had not been adequately consulted or taken into confidence during previous rounds of negotiations.

According to him, this lack of consultation had weakened the effective representation of the province’s position and interests, resulting in political setbacks.

He said the parliamentary party had unanimously decided to ensure its participation in future negotiations to safeguard Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s rights, the public mandate and the province’s interests.

Aftab Alam emphasised that the decision concerned representation in negotiations and had no connection with the nomination of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi or any proposed change in the provincial party presidency.

Addressing Salman Akram Raja, Aftab Alam said that seeking clarification or expressing disagreement was a separate matter, but presenting internal party issues publicly without fully verifying the facts could create unnecessary confusion and misunderstandings.

He urged the PTI secretary general to contact the provincial parliamentary party and relevant leadership directly before commenting publicly on sensitive matters.

The minister stressed that mutual consultation, trust and responsible conduct were essential for resolving internal party issues.

Aftab Alam said PTI’s strength lay in the leadership of Imran Khan, the sacrifices of its workers and the trust of the public.

He called on party leaders and members to remain united in line with Imran Khan’s vision and work collectively to preserve party unity, protect the public mandate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and safeguard the province’s rights.
