PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Secretary Dr. Fakhr Alam Irfan has directed government officials to improve their performance, ensure punctuality and prioritise public service delivery, warning that there is no place in the province for officers who fail to perform their duties.
According to sources, the chief secretary chaired his first formal meeting with senior provincial officials on Wednesday, during which he outlined his expectations for the provincial bureaucracy and stressed the need for greater accountability and efficiency.
Chief Secretary Calls for Punctuality and Better Performance
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Fakhr Alam Irfan said government officials must work hard to dispel the perception in other provinces that civil servants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa do not perform their duties effectively.
He warned against the culture of arriving late at government offices and directed officials to reach their workplaces before 9:00 am.
The chief secretary also made it clear that the provincial government would follow a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, stating that no form of corrupt practice would be tolerated.
Officials Told to Focus on Public Service
Emphasising accountability, the chief secretary said that if the government was held responsible for wrongdoing, it should also receive credit for positive achievements.
He urged government officers to focus on practical performance rather than personal publicity, stressing that their primary responsibility was to serve the public.
He further directed officials to ensure the timely delivery of public services and take effective measures to resolve citizens’ problems.
Government Office Phone Connections to Be Restored
In a move aimed at improving public access to government departments, the chief secretary ordered the immediate restoration of telephone connections to government offices that had been disconnected over the past several years.
The restoration is intended to make it easier for citizens to contact government departments and seek assistance with their issues.
Chief Secretary to Visit Government Offices
Dr. Fakhr Alam Irfan also announced that he would visit government offices across the province soon to review their functioning and assess the performance of officials.
He reiterated that improving service delivery, resolving public complaints and ensuring access to government services must remain the top priorities of the provincial administration.
