BANNU: The district administration of Bannu has detained Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Maulana Naseem Ali Shah for 30 days under Section 3(1) of the West Pakistan Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960, and shifted him to Central Jail Haripur, where his detention will continue.
The step has been taken on the report of the District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu in view of the restoration of law and order and public safety. According to the formal order issued by the Bannu district administration dated October 19, 2026, MNA Maulana Naseem Ali Shah, son of Naseeb Ali Shah, resident of Ghoriwala Bannu, was feared to severely affect the law and order situation in the area due to his activities of disturbing peace, spreading unrest, and negative activities.
In the order issued by Deputy Commissioner Bannu Zia-ur-Rehman, referring to DPO Bannu’s letter No. 6279/PA dated October 19, 2026, it has been made clear that, according to the police report, the said person has been found involved in anti-state activities.
In addition, he has been accused of inciting local residents to illegal protest demonstrations, blocking public highways, and practically obstructing government officials in performing their official duties.
In the order issued by the Deputy Commissioner Bannu, it has been argued that after reviewing the available arguments and material, the administration has come to the conclusion that the free movement of the said Member of the National Assembly poses serious threats to public safety and there is a fear that the overall law and order situation will deteriorate.
In light of the same, taking recourse to the West Pakistan Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance 3 MPO 1960, it has been directed that Maulana Naseem Ali Shah be taken into custody and immediately shifted to Central Jail Haripur, where he will remain detained for a period of 30 days.
The order further states that this period of his detention will start from the time of his arrest and custody. Copies of these orders have been sent to the Additional Chief Secretary Home and TA Department Peshawar, Commissioner Bannu Division, Regional Police Officer Bannu, RPO Hazara Division, DPO Bannu, DPO Haripur and Superintendent Central Jail Haripur with instructions for necessary action and to keep him in custody.
Section 3 of the West Pakistan Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance 1960 gives the district administration the authority to preemptively detain any person in order to maintain law and order whose activities pose a threat to breach of peace. For some time now, strict security measures have been observed by the administration in District Bannu and surrounding areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to the security situation and protest demonstrations.
In the past too, this law has been used by the administration against various political and religious leaders to keep roads open and maintain the smooth flow of highways.
