WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to create stickers with audio, adding another dimension to the messaging experience.
The Meta-owned messaging platform already offers a wide range of stickers and allows users to turn their favourite images and videos into stickers. The upcoming feature will enable users to attach sound to their creations.
According to a report, the feature has been spotted in a newer WhatsApp beta version, indicating that the company is working on its development.
The report states that users will be able to select audio files saved on their mobile phones or record their own voices to add sound to stickers.
A new sound-wave icon is expected to appear in the sticker creation toolbar. By tapping the icon, users will be able to choose an audio file or record a voice message to accompany their sticker.
Each sound sticker will reportedly support audio clips of up to 10 seconds. Once a sticker is sent in a chat, a volume icon will appear alongside it, allowing the recipient to tap and listen to the attached audio.
The feature is also expected to benefit users who create animated stickers from videos. According to the report, WhatsApp will automatically extract a five-second audio clip from a video and add it to the sticker.
Users will reportedly have the option to replace the extracted audio with another file or a newly recorded voice, giving them greater control over their creations.
The new feature could make conversations more expressive by allowing users to share personalised stickers with sound rather than relying solely on images and animations.
However, WhatsApp has not yet announced an official release date or confirmed when the feature will become available to all users.
