PESHAWAR: The Private Schools Regulatory Authority (PSRA) has made approved building plans mandatory for private schools and colleges, directing educational institutions to verify that their buildings comply with the relevant regulatory requirements.
According to an official notification, all private educational institutions must obtain approval for their building plans from the relevant building control authority and keep copies of approved maps and permits available on their premises for inspection.
The directive aims to ensure that school buildings meet the applicable construction and safety requirements.
Prior Approval Mandatory for New Construction
Under the notification, private schools and colleges will not be allowed to undertake construction or add extra floors without prior approval from the competent authority.
The requirement also applies to extensions of existing school buildings, rooftop cabins and temporary classrooms. Educational institutions must secure the necessary permissions before carrying out such work.
The authority clarified that registration with the PSRA does not replace the requirement for an approved building plan or serve as proof that a building is structurally fit for use.
Unsafe School Buildings Face Restrictions
The notification further states that educational activities in buildings declared unsafe will not be allowed to resume until written safety clearance has been obtained from the relevant authorities.
The measure places additional emphasis on ensuring that school premises are safe for students, teachers and other staff.
Copies of the notification have also been sent to deputy commissioners and the relevant building control authorities for necessary action.
Private educational institutions have been directed to comply with the requirements and ensure that their building approvals and safety documentation are available for inspection.
