PESHAWAR: A major and historic step has been taken for the welfare of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and to modernize its performance and operational capabilities.
A comprehensive summary regarding a significant increase in salaries of KP Police personnel has been sent to Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi for approval. The summary sent to Governor Faisal Karim Kundi proposes up to a 120 percent increase in salaries in the form of Security Challenge Allowance, keeping in view the tough security situation and field duties.
For Southern and Merged Districts, 120 percent of basic pay allowance has been recommended for police personnel performing duties in these sensitive regions. For other settled districts, 100 percent allowance has been proposed, while for Hazara Region, 75 percent Security Challenge Allowance has been recommended.
According to the summary, provision of Security Challenge Allowance will incur additional expenditure of more than Rs. 5.15 billion on a monthly basis, which has been termed extremely necessary to keep the spirit of Frontier Forces high.
The summary states that KP Police has been playing the role of frontline force against terrorism for the last three decades and has rendered matchless sacrifices, but due to severe budget shortage, the force is facing a shortage of modern surveillance equipment, protective gear, and latest weapons.
To further strengthen the operational capability, additional procurement funds of more than Rs. 13.87 billion have been demanded. This includes Rs. 11.16 billion for modern procurement in settled districts and more than Rs. 3.35 billion for merged districts for financial year 2026-27. Required modern equipment includes Sub-Machine Guns, modern rifles, high-quality bulletproof jackets, ballistic helmets, drone systems, thermal weapon sights, night vision binoculars, anti-drone technology, and modern armored vehicles.
For sustainable law and order, improvement of infrastructure, and modernization of police stations, immediate release of funds of Rs. 12.22 billion has also been recommended for ongoing development projects.
The summary reiterates that the sacrifices of KP Police are unforgettable; however, eliminating the disparity in low salaries compared to other provinces and equipping the force with the most modern facilities is the most important national need of the hour.
