NOWSHERA: The Governor’s Inspection Team of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa conducted a surprise inspection late at night at the government grain godown located in the Azakhel area of Nowshera.
According to sources, several tons of wheat stored at the godown were damaged due to recent rains. It is alleged that despite being damaged, the wheat was being supplied to flour mills in Mardan and Peshawar.
Following this, the Flour Mills Association protested the supply of substandard wheat. After the protest by the Flour Mills Association, the inspection team of the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa carried out a sudden inspection of the Azakhel grain godown late at night.
During the inspection, the condition of the wheat, storage arrangements, and the matter of wheat supply to flour mills were reviewed. During the raid, the team found serious irregularities, including sand mixed with government wheat stocks, casting serious doubts on handling and quality control.

The team seized stock registers and directed comprehensive sample testing to determine the extent of contamination and identify at which stage the adulteration occurred.
It is worth mentioning that Azakhel is the largest government wheat warehouse in the province and has a history of wheat scams where thousands of sacks worth millions of rupees were previously found missing.
Observers have raised questions regarding the effectiveness of regular departmental audits and why supervisory authorities failed to detect the compromised stock earlier.
However, no official position has been released so far at the government level regarding the latest inspection and its findings.
