ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has started using advanced tablet devices to bring registration and identity-related services directly to citizens across Pakistan.
According to NADRA officials, the modern tablets have been manufactured in Pakistan, and their use is gradually being expanded to facilitate registration activities in different areas.
The devices are equipped with the Pak ID software, enabling NADRA officers to provide registration services in the field. They can capture citizens’ fingerprints, photographs and iris scans, making the biometric data collection and identification process more accessible.
Under the system, a NADRA officer can carry the tablet to different locations and conduct registration activities according to local needs. The facility can be particularly useful in union councils experiencing heavy public traffic or facing a high demand for identity-related services.
Officials said that if an unusually large number of citizens gather at a particular union council, an officer equipped with the tablet can be deployed there to help manage the demand and facilitate registration.
The initiative aims to reduce waiting times and minimise the need for citizens to travel to distant registration centres to access essential services.
By combining biometric technology with the Pak ID software, NADRA intends to make its services more flexible and accessible, extending registration facilities beyond conventional centres and deploying resources wherever they are needed most.
