ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has claimed that the head of a political party is deeply upset over not being given a role in the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or being appointed governor.

Speaking informally to journalists, Naqvi alleged that the politician in question had relied on the establishment for political support for several decades.

According to the interior minister, the politician had even depended on the establishment to arrange air tickets for members of his political party. Naqvi said such politicians were not in a position to criticise others while overlooking their own political history.

Naqvi stressed that political differences were part of democratic discourse but said discussions should be based on facts and arguments rather than inappropriate language and accusations.

Questions Raised Over Former FATA Districts’ Resources

The interior minister also criticised certain political leaders for expressing concern over the allocation of resources to the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), now merged with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He questioned why these leaders had remained silent for years when, according to him, the former tribal districts were not receiving their due share of resources.

Naqvi asked why political leaders had not spoken up for the rights of people in the former FATA districts at the time, adding that the issue of their rights and resources should be kept above political interests.

Calls for Unity Amid Security Challenges in KP

Naqvi said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was facing serious security challenges and urged political leaders to play a constructive role in restoring peace and eliminating terrorism.

He called on politicians to avoid inflammatory statements and actions that could fuel division and unrest, stressing that the province needed stability and collective efforts rather than political confrontation.

Naqvi maintained that all political stakeholders should prioritise peace, security and the protection of citizens’ rights amid the province’s ongoing challenges.

Naqvi’s remarks come amid political debate over governance arrangements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the possible imposition of governor’s rule and the distribution of resources to the province’s merged tribal districts.

However, Naqvi did not publicly identify the political party leader he was referring to in the reported informal conversation.
